JIKISHIN KAGE-RYU
Kashima Shinden Jikishin Kage-ryū (鹿島神傳直心影流, かしましんでんじきしんかげりゅう), often referred to simply as Jikishin Kage-ryū or Kashima Shinden, is a traditional school (koryū) of the Japanese martial art of swordsmanship (kenjutsu). The school was founded in the mid-16th century, based upon older styles of swordsmanship, and is one of the few ancient Japanese martial arts schools still existing today.
SENSEI SUZUKI KIMIYOSHI
Sensei Suzuki was born in Tokyo, in 1934, and has been practicing martial arts since his childhood. He has a 6th dan degree in Goju-ryu Karate, and he has the highest, menkyo kaiden degree in Jikishin Kage-ryu kenjutsu which he received at the Naganuma-ha.
Sensei Suzuki moved to Hungary (Pécs) in 1992, where soon after he founded the Shinbukan Dojo, which later became the Jikishinkan Dojo. Thanks to the work of the sensei, Jikishin Kage-ryu kenjutsu spread to several European countries. Sensei Suzuki remains active, inspiring his students around the world with his dedicated teaching.
JIKISHINKAN DOJO SLOVENIA
Founder and instructor: Boris Martinovic
I have been practicing Jikishin Kage-ryu kenjutsu under sensei Suzuki and sensei Baranyi (Goshinkan Dojo, Budapest) for several years, where I obtained a 2nd dan degree and a Reiken instructor degree.
In the Summer of 2024 I permanently moved to Slovenia, and with the blessing of sensei Suzuki I opened the first Slovenian school of Jikishin Kage-ryu to promote this beautiful and traditional style of Japanese swordsmanship.
My hope is that the Jikishin Kage-ryu family will grow further in Slovenia!
TRAININGS
Location: Dokiai Dojo, Dolenjska cesta 44a, Ljubljana
Time: Every Friday 17:00-18:30
Instructor: Boris Martinovic (2nd dan, Reiken instructor)
Language: English
Age limit: 16+
In our school we practice the traditional Jikishin Kage-ryu kata as well as those developed by sensei Suzuki. Most of the forms are practiced in pairs, but our training also includes iai forms, combat training in bogu, tameshigiri cutting practice, and kihon (basic stances, footwork, body movement, cuts, and blocks). We use a belt system similar to Karate.
EQUIPMENT & GEAR
The traditional wooden practice weapons of Jikishin Kage-ryu are the bokken, kodachi, fukuro-shinai, hojo bokken, and furibo. We also use both a habiki and a shinken. In daily practice the bokken is the weapon we use most of the time, while the hojo bokken is Jikishin Kage-ryu's signature weapon used for the Hojo no Kata and certain kihon practices.
In our school only the advanced level students with a dan rank can wear a hakama, while the beginner and intermediate level students are required to practice in white karate gi with a belt matching their rank. We use kendo bogu for combat practice.
